Marines must maintain higher fitness standards than any other military branch.  The Marine Corps PFT consists of a 3 mile run, maximum sit-ups(crunches) in 2 minutes and maximum pullups for men.

Below you will find the current scores that you will receive for the amount of each exercise you can do.  Your goal should at least be to achieve a 1st class PFT score.

    run, fast.

  • guest says:

really the only way to be a better runner is to run, however if your like me and hate running, a great way to get your cardio up is to bike ride, or if you can get an eliptical that works well too, but the only way to get faster at running is to run, you can do sprints to increase speed, and then just run

Hi. I can do 80 push-ups,19 pull-ups,and 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes. I ran on rocky terrain for 1 1/2 miles in 11 minutes. I was wondering if I was able to get a 1st score on the pft. I wanna get a score of 225 so that when I join I could have a chance at Marsoc. Also, could I take it again after I’ve signed up,Like in a few years? Thanks

Understand, that as you prepare form USMC Boot Camp, it is just the beginning in testing your stamina. The 3-mile run is just the beginning (in terms of running ). During ITR you will be required to run 10 miles. Understanding what it means to be in the greatest service in the world takes dedication and desire…..When you think that you cannot go any further….that is when the Marine in you kicks into full gear.
As an ex combat Marine, i can tell you that there is no greater brotherhood anywhere…it is with you forever. Semper Fidelis and the best of luck in your endeavors.

Hi, Okay this post is a little old, but i’m currently on my way to be a Recon Marine, I am 5’8″ weight 155, i can push out 36 pullups, 126 crunches in 2 min and a 16.34 min 3 mile. The best way to get ready is to just do it, if you have talked to a recruiter already, and your in the DEP, it comes with a training manual, and in the back is a 30 day work out schedule, There are 3 categories, In active, Relatively inactive and Active, So if you want to get a perfect PFT, i don’t care how big you are or how out of shape you are, push yourself to do the active, It may hurt, but thats what being a Marine is about, being better then what you think you can ever be, before Boot Camp i was only doing 20 pullups, 111 crunches and a 17.69 3 mile. But I also trained out of that booklet, and it helped a lot. Boot was easy in terms of physical, Don’t get me wrong still fucking kicked my ass, and the DI’s don’t get nicer. But the thing you really want to train for is CFT.

What is classified as a “crunch”. I just did 100 pretty easily ; I’m thinking I’m doing them wrong.
