Important Tips & Suggestions

1. Attitude is the key to doing well at boot camp.  Train yourself to maintain a winning attitude and you will do well.

2. Stay motivated!  The Drill Instructors love to see motivated recruits.  Show them that you have the heart to be the best recruit ever.

3. Memorize the basics.  The basic academic questions and knowledge included in the book is a great way to give you an edge over the other recruits.  Make it easier on yourself by memorizing them now.  You will have to day so sooner is better than later.

4. Get in shape now!  Don’t wait for boot camp to get you in shape, you need to be in good shape before you ever leave.  Be sure you can pass the IST before leaving and most importantly, the PFT.  Stick with the physical training programs included in the book along with a solid nutritional plan and you will do fine.

5. Watch Marine Corps movies.  Full Metal Jacket, Heartbreak Ridge, Sands of Iwo Jima and Born on the Fourth of July are all top picks.  These type of movies will help motivate you.

6. Read Marine Corps Books.  Educate yourself as much as you can about the Marine Corps way of life.  Some great book picks are:

  • Boot by Daniel Cruz
  • Marine Sniper by Charles Henderson
  • Marine! The life of Chesty Puller by Burke Davis
  • The Greatest Marine Corps Stories Ever Told by Iain C. Martin
