Drill Instructor Mind Games

Drill Instructor Mind Games

Drill instructors have a purpose and that is to turn ordinary citizens into basically trained Marines ready to answer the call of duty for our nation.  They will try their best to discourage you.  Many people cannot handle the mental stress the Drill Instructors put on them.  Just remember that you are not the only one.  Every single person in your platoon will be going through the same thing.  Don’t take it personally; they are only doing their jobs.

Here are some things that you should know about Drill Instructors:

1. They have the most important job in the Marine Corps – The future of the Marine Corps rests on the shoulders of these top notch Marines.  They are dedicated, motivated and knowledgeable and are able to take an ordinary citizen and mold them into a US Marine and that is no easy task.  Without them, the Marine Corps could not function.

2.  They are experienced and know what they are doing – It may seem that boot camp is all a game but trust me, there is a purpose to it and everything done will be preparing you for your future years in the Corps.

3. They are extremely fit and prepared to tackle anything they’ll ever ask you to do – You will be amazed at their ability to do everything you are doing and more.  They will run along beside you while singing cadence, spend hours screaming out marching orders while marching along side you and spend countless hours working overtime away from their families, on weekends and holidays in order to ensure your success.

4. Most are great Marine Corps role models – During my time in the Marine Corps, I always thought of the perfect Marine being like any one of my drill instructors.  They were always squared away, knowledgeable, physically fit, motivated, dedicated and professional.  This is the way every Marine should be.

5. They are trying to turn you into the best Marine possible – Even though it doesn’t seem like it, they want you to succeed.  After all, your success directly reflects the Drill Instructor’s ability.

The following is the Drill Instructor’s Pledge and what they are committed to doing

These recruits are entrusted to my care. I will train them to the best of my ability. I will develop them into smartly disciplined, physically fit, basically trained Marines, thoroughly indoctrinated in love of Corps and country. I will demand of them, and demonstrate by my own example, the highest standards of personal conduct, morality, and professional skill.”
